This Week in Georgia History:

On May 15, 1879:

The National Bell Telephone Company was opened in Atlanta, the city’s first telephone exchange. The exchange was located on the top floor of the Kimball House to allow wires to exit through the roof. The first switchboard handled about 25 lines which could be shared by two or more subscribers.
