The Georgia Archives is not staffed to provide extensive research services; our primary function is to provide access to the records for your research. We encourage you to visit the Georgia Archives so that we may assist you. You may also wish to view the documents in the
Virtual Vault and links under the
“Collections” section of our web page.
The Archives is open for research Friday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Archives is closed for all
state and most federal holidays. When the holiday falls on Friday or a Monday, the Archives is also closed on the Saturday following the Friday holiday or immediately preceding the Monday holiday. Please see
On-Site Research for additional details.
Original documents are retrieved from 8:30 to 4:00 p.m., and may be viewed in the Original Document Reading Room until 4:45 p.m.
You may wish to review the documents in the Virtual Vault. The Vault contains images of extensive historical materials, maps, etc.
If you cannot visit the archives you may wish to obtain the services of a professional researcher. The Georgia Archives does not endorse researchers, but these links are provided for your
convenience. These researchers have a special interest in genealogy but many also have expertise in other research areas.
