DESCRIPTION OF SERIES
AND ITS CONTENTS:
(545, 520)
These
volumes contain proclamations of rewards offered by the Chief Executive for felony crimes and selected misdemeanors. On request from county officials, the Governor issued a reward
proclamation for the fugitive. Units 1
- 3 are boxes which contain loose proclamations that lack any particular order
and they may or may not be a duplication of the corresponding volumes (units 4
- 18).
The
proclamations are arranged by date of announcement and list the criminal,
county, crime, circumstances, the reward and a standard paragraph giving the
official sanction by the state of the fugitive's apprehension.
Successive
volumes revoked the reward offers of prior years, except for Gin House
Burners, Forgers of Land Titles, and Counterfeiters of the Great Seal of the
State, A.D. Candler, 12/3/1898. The
researcher may also see RGSGSERIES 1-4-19,
Register of Warrants Received and
Requisitions Issued for Fugitives, and RGSGSERIES 1-4-62, Correspondence
Relating to Rewards. In the following
shelf list, Unit 10, 1902-1907, has a duplicate copy from the Secretary of
State's Office.
