Secretary of State Karen Handel Announces Circuit Rider Archivist Consultation Grants Awarded to 52 Georgia Local Governments and Organizations ATLANTA—Secretary of State Karen Handel today announced that the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board (GHRAB) has awarded Circuit Rider Archivist Consultation Grants to 52 Georgia organizations. The grant recipients include county and city governments, court systems, boards of education, colleges, universities, historical societies, libraries, and museums in thirty-eight counties across the state. A professional archivist will visit these organizations and provide advice and assistance in the care of historical records. The Circuit Rider Archivist Program Round Two, funded by the Georgia General Assembly and Clayton State University, will assist local organizations with the preservation of historical documents and increase public access to historical records. “I am pleased to announce these grants as part of our ongoing effort to serve the people of Georgia by ensuring our state’s historical records are preserved for future generations,” said Secretary of State Karen Handel. “Thanks to the support of the Georgia General Assembly, GHRAB, and Clayton State University, historical organizations can protect our important documents and make them more accessible to the public.” GHRAB, the state’s statutory body for historical records planning, works to promote the educational use of Georgia’s documentary heritage and to support efforts to improve the condition of records statewide. The Board is charged with advising the Governor, the Secretary of State, and the Georgia Archives on records and policy issues. GHRAB administers the Historical Records Grant Program, to assist local governments, historical repositories, and other organizations in preserving historical records. For further information on GHRAB, please contact Elizabeth Barr, GHRAB Assistant Coordinator, at 678-364-3718, or visit the web site at www.GeorgiaArchives.org. Grant recipients are listed below.
