Actions Taken by the Board of Cemeterians at its July 31 Meeting

Atlanta—The State Board of Cemeterians held its inaugural meeting July 31. Board members were briefed by the Attorney General’s Office on their duties and responsibilities under the law, and the Board’s powers were transferred to them from Secretary of State Karen Handel, whose office had previously been tasked to perform the functions of the Board.

The Board members elected Clift Dempsey from Cartersville, Ga. to serve as President of the Board. During the meeting, the Board adopted procedures to allow the Office of the Secretary of State to open investigations upon the receipt of complaints and to issue registrations for non-deficient applications for perpetual care cemeteries, pre-need dealers, merchandise dealers and pre-need salespersons.

The Board also agreed to meet the fourth Tuesday of every month.
